Resource Sharing and Interlibrary Loan
The Shannon Municipal Library Board sees resource sharing and Interlibrary Loan as an integral part of the services provided by the Library.
The Alberta Library Card
- All valid Alberta Library cards from all participating public libraries in the Province will be recognized. They will not be charged a borrowing fee and will reflect the same expiry date as that from their local Library. All local rules, policies and procedures will apply to these patrons.
- Books from this Library can be returned at any Alberta Library and books from any public library in the Province can be returned here to be forwarded to their respective libraries.
Interlibrary Loans
When patrons require material or services outside of those available from the Shannon Municipal Library or TRAC, the staff will attempt to meet those needs by utilizing Provincial resource sharing agreements and networking with other libraries, such as academic, school or special libraries.
The following materials cannot be provided through Interlibrary Loan:
- basic reference material
- genealogical books (i.e. detailed books providing details of family history as opposed to books which assist in locating such material, identify persons and/or provide brief biographical information) unless approved for loan by the originating library.
- full issues of periodicals (usually photocopies of articles will be supplied free of charge if found in Alberta)
- specific texts for schools, college, or university courses.
- rare books
- audio-visual material
A maximum of five interlibrary loan requests can be made at one time.
The Library reserves the right to pass on charges levied by a lending library.
